A clock has two important hands. The short hand tells the hour. The long hand tells the minutes.
1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 5 → 6 → 7 → 8 → 9 → 10 → 11 → 12
The big numbers 1 through 12 are for hours.
Each new hour, the short hand moves to the next number.
The short, thick hand is the hour hand.

Each tiny step = 1 minute · 60 steps = 1 hour
Between each hour number, there are 5 little minutes.
5 × 12 = 60 minutes in one full circle!
When the long hand points to 12, it's exactly o'clock.
Read the hour number where the short hand points.
When the long hand points to 6 (30 minutes), we say "half past".
The short hand is halfway between two numbers.
When the long hand points to 3 (15 minutes), we say "quarter past".
15 minutes is one quarter of an hour.
When the long hand points to 9 (45 minutes), we say "quarter to" the next hour.
15 minutes left until the next hour!
Use the hour numbers to count minutes by fives!
1 = :05 · 2 = :10 · 3 = :15 · 4 = :20 · 5 = :25 · 6 = :30
7 = :35 · 8 = :40 · 9 = :45 · 10 = :50 · 11 = :55 · 12 = :00
